โœฆ A small shop, doing right by the neighborhood since 2011

Your neighbor.
Your plumber.
Same person.

I'm Sam, and I'll probably be the one who shows up. Stillwater Plumbing is a small family shop in Stillwater, VT. Two trucks. Three plumbers. One owner who still answers the phone most days. We take care of leaky faucets, busted water heaters, and everything in between - the way we would for our own folks. No upsells, no scripts, no national dispatch.

What We Do

The kind of plumbing
your grandma's plumber used to do.

Honest work, fair prices, and somebody who actually shows up when they say they will. We do the small jobs and the big ones, and we explain everything in plain English before you owe us a dime.

How A Visit Goes

No surprises.
Not at the door, not on the bill.

Most folks who call us have been burned by somebody before. Here's exactly how it goes when you call our shop, so there's nothing to wonder about.

01
๐Ÿ“ž

You call. A real person picks up.

Usually Sam, sometimes his wife Linda. We ask what's going on, give you an honest read on whether it can wait, and book a window if it can't.

02
๐Ÿš

We give you a 2-hour window.

Not "sometime Tuesday." A real window. We text you when we're 20 minutes out so you're not stuck waiting around the house all day.

03
๐Ÿ“‹

We look, then we tell you the price.

Before any wrench comes out. We'll show you what's wrong, explain your options, and tell you the flat price. You decide if we move forward.

04
โœ…

We do the work. We clean up.

Boots covered, drop cloths down, old parts hauled away. The price you heard is the price you pay. Then we follow up in a week to make sure it's still right.

"Sam & his dad, on the day the shop opened in 2011" Replace with real photo at conversion

Our Story

A shop run by a kid who
grew up under the sink.

Sam Stillwater opened this shop in 2011, but his hands knew the trade a lot longer than that. His dad ran a plumbing route out of the same garage from 1978 until the day he retired. Sam grew up holding flashlights, then holding wrenches, then doing the work himself.

When his dad retired, Sam kept the same phone number, the same shop, and the same rule: do the work the way you would want it done at your own grandma's house, and never charge a price you would not feel right looking somebody in the eye about. That is still how it works today.

"My dad always said, the customer doesn't really care about the pipe. They care about not having to think about it again. That's the job."

Water Heater Tuesday

50-gallon water heater swap

Old tank was leaking from the bottom seam. New Bradford White, new shutoff valve, new flex lines, hauled the old one away. Hot water back on in about three hours.

Drains Wednesday

Main line backup cleared

Whole house was backing up at the lowest drain. Ran the camera, found roots about 30 feet out. Jetted it clean and showed the homeowner the before and after on the screen.

Frozen pipe thaw & repair

Cold snap caught a copper line in the crawlspace. Thawed it slow, found one split section, cut it out and put PEX in its place. Wrapped the rest of the run while we were under there.

Job: Water heater install

"Sam came out the same morning I called about a leaking water heater. Quoted me a fair price, swapped it before lunch, hauled the old one away. He even noticed our pressure-reducing valve was failing and fixed that too without charging extra. We've used him for everything since."

Job: Repipe consultation

"I had two other plumbers tell me I needed to repipe the entire house. Sam came out, looked at it for 20 minutes, and said no, you have one bad junction in the basement and a $40 part will fix it. He was right. He saved me about $8,000 on his first visit."

Job: Burst pipe emergency

"Pipe burst on a Saturday during the cold snap. Sam was at our house in 40 minutes, water back on by dinnertime, and he spent another half hour talking us through how to keep it from happening again. The kind of plumber you tell your friends about."

What It Costs

Honest prices,
told to you before we start.

Big jobs (repipes, sewer line work, new construction) get a written quote on-site, free. We don't price those over the phone because we don't think it's fair to guess.

Where We Go

A short list
of good towns.

We work in the towns within about a half-hour of the shop. If yours is not on the list, give us a call - if a truck is nearby, we are happy to come.

Things People Ask

Questions we get
before anyone calls.

If you've got a question that's not on here, just call the shop. We'd rather you ask than wonder.

Do you charge to come out and look?

Our service call is $89 and it's waived if you decide to have us do the work. We don't believe in "free" estimates that get padded into the bill later, and we don't believe in charging you a fortune just to give an honest opinion.

Will you give me a price before you start?

Always. Every time. We look at the job, walk you through what's wrong, and give you a flat price in writing before any tools come out. If you don't want to do it, you don't owe us anything beyond the service call.

What if it's after hours or on a weekend?

For real emergencies (burst pipe, no water, sewer backup, gas smell), Sam carries the phone himself. We'll get to you as fast as we can. For non-emergencies, leave a voicemail and we'll call back first thing in the morning.

Do you take credit cards?

Yes - all major cards, plus check, cash, and Venmo. We can also set up financing through Synchrony for bigger jobs like repipes or tankless conversions.

What if you can't fix it the same day?

Most jobs we can. For the ones we can't (special-order parts, big repipes), we'll tell you up front, get the water back on temporarily if we can, and book a real follow-up date - not a "we'll call you sometime."

Do you guarantee your work?

One year on labor, manufacturer warranty on parts (most water heaters are 6-10 years). If something we touched fails inside that window, we come back and make it right. No fine print.
